Change Detection Research Interests
Using a change detection task, we report that visual short term memory (VSTM) stores relational information between individual items. Change detection of a cued target was impaired when relational information --the spatial configuration of all elements -- was disrupted. The spatial configuration of visual objects was important for not only spatial VSTM, but also VSTM of colors and shapes, suggesting that spatial configuration forms a lattice for VSTM of surface features. We have also used this paradigm to show that VSTM is not completely object based but rather, that the capacity of VSTM is at times limited by the number of features (e.g. color-color conjunctions) and at other times limited by the number of objects (e.g. color-orientation conjunctions).

Other Research Interests
Visual attention, implicit learning and memory, motion perception, occlusion, audio-visual integration.
